What does the Omega hallmark stand for on gold jewelery ?

I have a 14ct gold ring, it is hallmarked 585 followed by the omega sign in a diamond shape. Does anyone know what it means ?|||.585 is the digital fraction for 14/24, 14 carat.

Usually extra characters are alloy codes, but your omega in a diamond sound like a trade mark.

Grandpa |||I couldn't tell you, however one of the clever people at the website below might be able to help you.|||That symbol is the last letter in the greek alphabet|||ok|||It means the percentage of gold particles within the jewelery.

The purest gold which is also the softest would be classified 999 which has the highest content of gold %26amp; fairly common in the Far East %26amp; the hallmark will be 24ct.

18ct gold which is normally manufactured in Italy is the most common throughout Europe %26amp; the rest of the world would have a hallmark of 750 %26amp; it's the most commonly used.
