How much Omega 3 fish oil should I be taking?
I'm 24 and started to take Omega 3 fish oil supplements because of all the benefits I have read about. The bottle says to take 3 a day and each capsule is 1200mg. Is that too much for me?|||You say 'each capsule is 1200mg, but what you really need to know is the amount of EPA/DHA the capsule provides. It is important to check the labels before you decide how many capsules you want to take per day. The dosage depends on many factors like your current diet, your age and your health. But, assuming, you are healthy and have no serious medical conditions like hart problems etc and are not pregnant you may take 220-250mg of combined EPA and DHA. There are many different recommendations (for example European Food Safety Agency recommends a daily dose of 250mg) and experts advice are different. I would advice reading 'Do You Have Fatty Acid Deficiency?'|||3 a day may be a little bit of overkill. True, Omega 3 fish oil has many benefits, but you don't have to go crazy on the doses to get those advantages. I think you'd be more than fine with 2 a day
