What is Omega 3 and what does it do for your body?

If I were to take an omega 3 supplement every day what would this do for me?What is it doing for my body?|||You know how saturated fat, mainly from meat and dairy products, is bad for you? Omega 3 is a range of different types of fats that are good for you.

If you cook some meat then allow the fat left over in the pan to go cold it goes hard, right? That's saturated fat and that's what it does in your blood. It blocks up your arteries and isn't good for you for a range of reasons.

If you cook fish and let the fat left over go cold it isn't hard, it's runny. So that's good fats, or polyunsaturated fats.

There's a number of Omega 3 fats. DHA is the most important, and EPA is too. Both are found in marine sources, basically fish.

Then there's ALA found in plant sources like flaxseeds. Not as important but still useful to your health.

There's a wide range of different conditions that have been shown to respond positively with Omega 3 supplementation. The American Heart Association tells us to eat fish at least twice a week for our heart. The Omega 3 fats in fish are good for us.

They reduce the risk of heart attacks, heart disease and strokes. Studies have shown that Omega 3s are good for your brain, improving memory and brain function.

There's more conditions that are said to respond to Omega 3 like depression, arthritis and any condition where inflammation is an issue. Omega 3s reduce inflammation more than aspirin.

And there's more. Have a look at the website below if you want to find out more. It gets quite involved.

Unfortunately the toxins in fish (mercury, PCbs, dioxine and so on) aren't good for us so you shouldn't eat a lot of fish. The FDA tells us not to eat a lot for that reason.

The best way to take Omega 3 is to take supplements daily. The best ones aren't contaminated and so you don't need to worry about that. Not all of them are the same though, you have to choose well.|||There are three major types of omega 3 fatty acids that are ingested in foods and used by the body: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Once eaten, the body converts ALA to EPA and DHA, the two types of omega-3 fatty acids more readily used by the body. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and help prevent risk factors associated with chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. These essential fatty acids are highly concentrated in the brain and appear to be particularly important for cognitive (brain memory and performance) and behavioral function. Symptoms of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency include extreme tiredness (fatigue), poor memory, dry skin, heart problems, mood swings or depression, and poor circulation.

Choose a quality supplement if you are seriously taking it to better your health.|||Omega 3 is a fatty acid commonly found in fish.

They are very useful for our brain for brain function. The body uses EPA and DHA( fish oil). If you take ALA (plant, nut oil, etc) the body converts it into these but it's a difficult process and you can lose some so it's better to just take ones that are already made this way.

If you take Omega 3 you want to balance it with Omega 6. Having more than the other can cause more bad than good. But Omega 6 is found in a lof of the foods we eat and more Americans now a days are getting more Omega 6 and not enough 3. You may want to consult nutritionist before you indulge in taking any type of supplements. If you take supplements high in other vitamins you can end up overdosing.

Taking Omega 3 will help increase brain and heart function. Omega 3 thins the blood and will help it to flow easier through the blood. "For adults, fish oil improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You'll swear you're getting younger and smarter." You may find yourself happier, They help increase Good Cholesterol, lower bad cholesterol and blood pressure break up blood clots, and supposedly helps prevent some types of cancer.

So Omega 3 is very helpful to all Americans and helps contribute to a balanced diet. But once again i would consult a nutritionist though this is up to you. You can research on how much the average American needs to take to help sustain a healthy body. Once again it's easy to overdose on this product due to other vitamins (Vitamin A) that may come out of fish. It's hard to overdose on plant, nut oil but it normally only supplies APA which the body tries to convert but since it's so difficult the body can fail and you loose a lot of the Omega 3, also plant, or nut oil like Flaxseed Oil can be unpleasant as it's full of fiber and you may be rushing to the bathroom at undesirable levels. Good luck.|||omega 3 fish oil!!
